Death* | June Wright died on 1 February 2016 at Grapevine, Tarrant, Texas, at age 80; buried at Grapevine Cemetery.1 |
Obit | June's obituary was published in the Find A Grave on circa 2 February 2016: Beloved June Wright Curtis passed away peacefully on February 1, 2017. She was born May 15, 1935 in Dallas to Lemoine Wright and Mattie Mae Lucas, of Grapevine, Texas. She graduated high school in Grapevine in only three years, graduated college at Texas Women’s University again in three years, and began teaching at a very young age in Winnie, Texas. She moved to Mesquite, Texas, earned a Master’s degree at East Texas State University, and continued to dedicate herself to teaching home economics and science for a total of 36 years before retiring.
Her husband, Finis Eugene Curtis, passed away nine months to the day prior to her passing. They were inseparable, adored each other, and their 53-year marriage continues to be an inspiration to their children. June was devoted to her family. She was loving and supportive of her children, attended countless soccer practices and recitals, but also strongly promoted their education. The family vacations each summer were joyful and often comedic, and are the source of loving memories and laughter. June was a proud member of “The Chickens,” a rebellious leather-clad motorcycle gang. Just kidding, but you might think so after hearing the way she always talked about how much commotion they were always causing. The Chickens, in fact, are a tight-knit group of women friends who grew up together in Grapevine and stayed close friends to this very day. She would announce an upcoming get-together by proclaiming “The Chickens are roosting!” Besides family and friends, she expressed her artistic side with her crafts, and her generous side by gifting June’s Creations, as she called her crafts.
Her brother, Joe Wright (Grapevine) survives her. Two children, Christy Reynolds (Mesquite) and Clayton Curtis (New York City), two grand-children, Wesley Reynolds (Mesquite) and Bradley Reynolds (Mesquite), a son-in-law, John Reynolds (Mesquite), a daughter-in-law, Galit Bitton-Curtis (New York City), a grand-daughter-in-law, Hope Wilson (Mesquite), and three great-grandsons, Ryan Reynolds, Noah Jimenez, and Nikolas Jimenez, also survive and carry on her memory.
SERVICE: On Saturday, February 4th the Lucas Funeral Home on 700 W. Wall St. in Grapevine, Texas will host a visitation at 3:00 pm and then a graveside service will be held at 4:30 pm at Grapevine Cemetery, 801 N. Dooley St. in Grapevine. Friends and family are welcome to either or both events.1 |
