Survivors include his wife, Icel Pruett Howell of the home; one son, Barry Gene Curtis and wife Juanita of Lenoir; one brother, Ray Curtis of Lenoir; one sister, Rose Church of Lenoir; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Mount Jefferson Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Casey. Entombment will follow at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir conducted by the Rev. Gary Teague.6 |

He was retired from Burlington Industries with 36 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 7th Armored Division, 23rd Infantry and received the Purple Heart; the American Theater Campaign Medal; EAMET Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars; and the Croix De Guerre Campaign Medal. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Renee Edens of Mebane; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Willard Ann Plunkett of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Gaines of Valdese and Mrs. Mable Lowrey of Kannapolis; two grandsons, Mr. Daniel Victor Edens and wife, Stacey, and Mr. John Ray Edens; and a great-grandson, Mr. Daniel Victor Edens Jr. He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Richard Malone Curtis. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. M. Kenneth Wilson, interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Haw River. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.5 |
