He began military service on 30 July 1861 at Asheville, Buncombe, North Carolina, as a Private, Company C, 25th North Carolina Infantry for one year, age 26, resident of Henderson County.⁷

Milit-End*

He ended military service after February 1864; no discharge record in his file; one record describes him as appearing on the list of casualties in Ransom's Division, severely wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg, 31 December 1862, but he appears on later muster rolls, including absent without leave for two months as of October 31, 1863 but present and paid through December 31, 1863.⁷
