Obit | Walter Amos's obituary was published in the Democrat on 19 January 1955: 92 Year-Old Succumbs. Walter A. (Buck) Curtis, a retired farmer who observed his 92nd birthday last Dec. 23 and who had spent his entire life in his native Posey County, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Death came to the aged man at the home of his daughter Mrs. Edward Yeida, 908 West Fourth street. Mr. Curtis had been in failing health for three years. He had been in a coma for the last five days following a stroke. Both of Mr. Curtis' parents were natives of Posey county. He was a son of Amos Curtis and Harriett Hill Curtis, representatives of pioneer local families. The body is at the Weisinger Funeral home. . . Burial will be in Black cemetery. Rev. Ernest Hopper, pastor of Mt. Vernon Church of the Nazarene, will conduct the services.
Mr. Curtis' wife, nee Fannie Bennett, is deceased. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Yeida, Mt. Vernon, and Miss Inez Curtis, New Castle, Ind; three sons, John R., Walter D. and Louis O., all of Mt. Vernon and vicinity, and 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.12 |

Obit | William Sherman's obituary was published in the Democrat on 20 June 1953: William Sherman (Uncle Dick) Curtis, 85, a native of Point township and descendent of two pioneer Posey county families, died at 10:15 o'clock last night at the home of his son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Causey, 17 West Maryland street, Evansville, Ind., where he had resided for the past three years. The body is at the Short Funeral Home where it will remain and funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Short chapel. Interment will be in Black cemetery. Friends may call at the home this afternoon. Mr. Curtis had been in failing health for some time but seriously ill one week. He was the son of Amos Curtis and Harriet Hill Curtis, members of early Point township pioneer families, and had resided in Point where he was a farmer until moving to Evansville to make his home with his daughter. His wife, the former Stella Harp, died about 25 years ago. Nearest surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Causey of Evansville and Mrs. Ivy Randolph, Peoria, Ill; two sons, Sherman, Detroit, Texas, and Archie, Mt. Vernon; a brother, Walter A. (Uncle Bub) Curtis, Point township. eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Another son, Amos Curtis, is deceased.10 |

Obit | Sarah Ellen's obituary was published in the an unknown place on 1952: Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon for Mrs. Sarah Ellen Russell Curtis, 96, beloved resident of Western Black township for virtually her entire long life, who died at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Knight Nursing Home in Lawrenceville, Ill. . . . Burial will be in the Black Cemetery. She was the daughter of John Russell and Ellen Darwood Russell, natives of Cambridgeshire, England, who came to America following their marriage and resided briefly at Smith Mills, Ky., before coming to Western Black township in Posey county where the late deceased was born. One hundred and one direct lineal descendants survive her. They include seven of nine children born to her union with Francis M. Curtis-Mrs. Wood, Lawrenceville, Mrs. George Henderson, Herman M. Curtis, Raymond F. Curtis, Wilford R. Curtis and Ralph M. Curtis of the Mt. Vernon community and Paul M. Curtis, Detroit. A daughter, Mrs. John Call, the eldest child, died in recent years and a son, Donald H., died in infancy. |
