Conlin, a Point township farmer, died in her sleep early today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John M. Bauer, 102 Owen street. Mrs. Conlin, a highly respected, life-long resident of Southern Posey county, had been ill of a heart ailment for three years, during which time she had resided with her daughter. She had been hospitalized a number of times but apparently was some improved. Death was unexpected.
Surviving, in addition to the husband the daughter; are a grandson, Travis Bauer, as sister, Mrs. Jasper Whipple, Mt. Vernon, and two brothers, William N. Curtis, a Western Black township farmer, and Mack Curtis, an Evansville realtor. The deceased's parents were the late Walter G. Curtis and Mattie Rowe Curtis of Western Black township.9 |

Obit | Amos William's obituary was published in the Western Star on 12 August 1943: Amos Curtis, 46, a veteran of World War I and well-known Point township farmer, died at 11:15 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home on State Highway 69 south of Hovey. A year's illness of tuberculosis was fatal. The deceased was a life-long resident of Point township, the son of William S. and Stella A. Harp Curtis. He was a member of Farmers Chapel of the South Mt. Vernon Methodist parish and of Owen Dunn Post, No. 5, American Legion. for several years he was a substitute rural mail carrier from the Mt. Vernon post office. Funeral services were to be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at Black church in charge of the Rev. Chester Mahan, pastor of the North Mt. Vernon Methodist parish, with burial following in the Black cemetery. Nearest surviving relatives are the wife, nee Inez Todd; the father, William S. Curtis of Point township; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Causey of Evansville and Mrs. Robert Randolph of Peoria, Ill., and two brothers, Sherman Curtis of Detroit, Texas, and Archie Curtis of Evansville.9 |

(Witness) Bio | Gilbert Templeton may be mentioned as one of Posey County's most prominent farmers and citizens. He is a native of the county, born January 30, 1820, and a son of Samuel and Sarah (Curtis) Templeton. The father was born in South Carolina in 1792, a tanner by trade, and followed that occupation the greater part of his life. At the time of his death (1872) he was a resident of Black Township. His wife was born in North Carolina in 1795 and died in 1870. Our subject was reared at home and received a common school education. He remained with his parents until twenty-four years of age, when he began working for himself. April 8, 1847, he married Desire, daughter of Elisha and Elicila Philips. She was born August 12, 1827, and died September 1, 1885, having borne seven children: Sarah, Armenias, Jennie and Frederick, living, and Mary, Thomas and Eva, deceased. Mr. Templeton is in every sense of the word a self-made man. He started in life with no capital except his hands and boundless energy, and now owns 275 acres of very fine land in Black Township and 100 acres in Point Township. He is a warm Republican and cast his first vote for Henry Clay. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.2 |
