Obit | Peter Sampson's obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 7 January 1937: Peter S. Widmyer, aged 80, retired merchant and one of the communities' oldest and most highly respected citizens, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon about 3:30 at his home here. More than a year ago Mr. Widmyer suffered a paralytic stroke but it was believed he had almost entirely recovered from its effects. On the day of his death he remained in bed due to a cold and slight headache. He collapsed while talking to his sister and was dead when a doctor arrived. Mr. Widmyer conducted a general merchandise business here for 30 years from 1900 to 1930, and prior to going into business for himself worked for 11 years in the general store operated by the late C.W. Johnson. He was an active member of the United Brethren church and a member of its choir for a number of years. He was also a member of the Junior Order, which organization conducted burial services at the grave. Two children survive, a son Russell, and a daughter Mrs. J. L. Wash. Two brothers, T. Jefferson and Samuel W., and a sister Mrs. R.N. Widmyer, also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the United Brethren Church, conducted by the pastor Rev. J.R. Collis. Interment was in Greenway cemetery.3 |

Johnson, who for a number of years conducted a general store in this place, died Wednesday morning at the home of her son Ward, in Pittsburgh, after a long illness. Mrs. Johnson had been an invalid for the past 15 years since suffering a paralytic stroke. During the past six years she had been bedfast. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. John M. Hamilton, Lisbon, Ohio; Mrs. Hugh DeFrees, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Manila Hunter, Ocean City, N.J; six sons, Harold, Lynnhugh and Ward of Pittsburgh, Pa; Homer, Warren, Ohio; Milton and Ried of this place. Two sisters, Mrs. William Dill, Pittsburgh, and Mrs. William Cowell of Seattle, Washington, and one brother C.T. Custer of Martinsburg, also survive. The body will arrive here from Pittsburgh late this afternoon and funeral services will be held at Hunter's Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. C.E. Ely, Brunswick, Md., officiating, assisted by the Rev. R.H. Bartlett of the local Methodist church. Interment will be in the family lot in Greenway cemetery.1 |

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, from the Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Al Clipp officiating. Burial was in the Greenway Cemetery. Friends may call at the Helsley Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs until 12:00 noon Thursday, August 7, when the casket will be moved to Trinity United Methodist Church for viewing until time of services at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. E.D. Spencer will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Henry Fisher. Interment will be in Stotler's Crossroads Cemetery.7 |

Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged Oct. 14, 1944. Rosalie was employed at the Interwoven Stocking Co. On December 23, 1944, they were married in Winchester, Va. by Rev. Shively. Upon discharge from the Navy, Clyde was employed at Graham's Food Market, Berkeley Club Bottling Co., J.W. Myers, Liggets, and became County Clerk of Morgan County in 1967. Born August 14, 1921, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Barthol L. Goldie May MCCOY GRAHAM. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member and deacon of the Berkeley Baptist Church; a member of the American Legion Post No. 60, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4019, Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council 117, Deford Lodge No. 88, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He served as treasurer of the Berkeley Springs Lions Club for 14 years, was a former member of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co., and served on the building committee for the American Legion Hall and fire hall in Berkeley Springs. Surviving are his wife, Rosalie GRAHAM, at home; one sister, Bernadine CATE, Lewiston, Idaho; three brothers, Clifford GRAHAM and Virgil GRAHAM, both of Martinsburg, and L.P. GRAHAM, of Berkeley Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Saturday at the Berkeley Baptist Church. Rev. Ed Rogers and Rev. Everett Powell officiated. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the local V.F.W. and the American Legion posts. Memorial donations may be made to the Gateway Regional Health.4 |
