Birth*Sarah A. Johnson was born on 25 January 1807 at Berkeley, Virginia; cemetery marker appears to have been misread; dod transcribed as 13 May 1848, age 31-3-18; assumed to be 13 May 1838 and dob calculated. The 1820 census indicates she was under 10, but the 1830 census indicates she was 20-30; an 1810 dob might resolve that inconsistency, but renders the cemetery reading nonsensical. An 1817 dob makes her extremely young to be married in 1829. The Toland Cemetery was abandoned and neglected at the time of the reading.2,3
Married Name As of 9 April 1829,her married name was Toland.4
Marriage*She married Erasmus Bruce Toland, son of Andrew Toland and Rachel Montgomery, on 9 April 1829 at Virginia.4
(Witness) CensusSarah A. Johnson appeared on the census of 1830 Monroe Twp., Miami, Ohio, in the household of Erasmus Bruce Toland; page 65, 1 female under 5, 1 male and 1 female 20-30.1
Death*Sarah A. Johnson died on 13 May 1838 at Shelby, Ohio, at age 31; buried at the Toland Cemetery; she is said to have had 5 children, but only 4 found.3
(Witness) CensusShe appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 Clay Twp., Auglaize, Ohio, in the household of George Reinhart; page 317C, occupation farmer, 10 children by 2 prior marriages, 2 of the Toland children and 2 more by Elizabeth.5

ObitGeorge William's obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 28 September 1939:

George William Johnson, aged 81 years and 6 months, died at 11:40 Thursday night, September 21, at the home of a son, Carl, who lives just east of town along the Martinsburg road. Mr. Johnson had not be well for some years, suffering three slight paralytic strokes during the past 15 years, but continued to remain active. He had been under the care of a physician for the past year or two. Wednesday night, just prior to his death, he had a hemorrhage and shortly after became unconscious from which he never rallied.
The deceased was a native of this county where he spent all of his long life. For years he lived on and operated his farm just across Sleepy Creek from Johnson's Mill. He was highly respected and considered one of the county's best citizens. Two sons, James H., of Cleveland, Ohio, and Carl S., at whose home he died, survived. His wife died in 1900.
The body was removed to the Hunter Funeral Home where services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Reverends Geo. H. Rector and I.C. Fuhrman officiating. Interment was in the Johnson graveyard near Johnson's Mill. Among those here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson and daughter, Margaret Ann, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Lulu Bryant, Bethesda, Md; Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hewett and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shriver and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shriver and son Roger, Bayville, N.J; Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Mohundro, Harry Forges and Preston Smith of Washington; Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Henry, Cumberland, Md; Fred and Glenn Weber, Baltimore; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Johnson. He was an active member of the United Brethren church and a member of its choir for a number of years. He was also a member of the Junior Order, which organization conducted burial services at the grave.
Two children survive, a son Russell, and a daughter Mrs. J. L. Wash. Two brothers, T. Jefferson and Samuel W., and a sister Mrs. R.N. Widmyer, also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the United Brethren Church, conducted by the pastor Rev. J.R. Collis. Interment was in Greenway cemetery.8
